a worthwhile weekend

Nathan finally had a Saturday off! Yay! We did our best to make the most of it. We started it off by waking up early, getting all cleaned up and heading to Phoenix for the Serve-a-Thon for Schools. A couple times a year my dad's company- the Phoenix Business Journal- participates in a community service project. It's always really fun and it's a good opportunity to help out. This time we helped out with a school carnival. Nathan didn't want to do anything artsy or crafty, and other people already had dibs on the sack races and basketball toss- so Nathan and I got put in charge of the balloon stomp! It was crazy! but the kids seemed to have fun- and that's what really matters.

Here's me and Nathan modeling our serve-a-thon shirts. Very stylish.

Nathan and my dad, scoping out what needs to be done.

This is the only picture I was able to get of our activity- once it got going, we were very busy. We tied a balloon to the end of a 4 ft piece of string and then tied the other end of the string to a kid's ankle. Then we got all the kids in a group and they ran around trying to pop each other's balloons. Whichever kid was last one standing with a full balloon won a prize. We ran our of balloons after about 5 rounds. The balloons kept popping before the games even started, so we went through them pretty fast.

After the school carnival me, Nathan, and my dad went over to the new Mexican restaurant at the Claredon Hotel. A friend of Nathan's is a chef there. The food was super delicious and EXTREMELY affordable. If you're ever over near 4th Ave and Osbourn, I would definitely suggest that you stop in.

A little later that day we took a little trip over to Costco and got some enlargements made of our wedding photos and did a little grocery shopping. THEN we got cleaned up again and headed over to the temple to meet my parents for the 4:00 session. It was a great experience. It was the first time since we've gotten married that we had a chance to go to the temple. Hopefully, once I am done with school we'll be able to make it down there at least once or twice or a month.
